Africa Express Sound System

Being invited to play with africa Express is always an honour. Followed by this feeling of honour, is the feeling of anxiety and  fear.

Anxious to discover who else has been invited to play and fear of the fact you will have to learn around 90minutes of new music in three days..!..

This was the first AESS live show of the year and it was a big one as we prepared  to headline the Standon Calling festival in Hertfordshre.

The AESS line up was lead by: Jesse Hackett and Remi Kabaka. 

Vocalists: Terri Walker, Jon McLure, Fatou, Mic Righteous, Baloji, Mensa, Tor and Kate Tempest.

Musicians: Richy Pitch, Musa M'boob, Diabel Cissokho and PSM

GSS Polski Situation

Weekend before last we went to Poland to play Heineken Open'er Festival. We were greeted by beautiful people and beautiful weather...

On the first night of the festival, Remi and I ventured off to see Massive Attack headline the main stage in front of 80,000 people, which was truly a magical and inspirational performance  - After the show, Remi who know's everyone introduced me to the Massive team..

I also managed to buck up with an old mate from London, Julien Brown who is currently holding one of the two pairs of sticks for the Massive rhythm section.

 

Saturday was our show day and I went through my usual rituals and sequence of events which were as follows:

Go for a run, Early morning sound check, Brunch with crew, Back to the hotel for sleep and meditation, Stop by at Remi's room and vibes to old school soul and jazz records, Stop by Kofi's room for a quick trim and shape up, Put on show clothes, Go to venue and have a wander, Prep drums, Play show, Photos and Signing Posters, Rinse the ryder, Back to the Hotel 

We played the show on the Tent Stage which was massive for a tent with a capacity of 15,000 which we managed to overflow with nearly 40,000 people coming to see us play! The PSM and DJ Kofi outside Tent stage Open'er
