The PSM - Ultraviolet UVA experience

I consider myself to be a new breed of musician, a 'multimedia musician' - to stay on top of the ever growing and rapid developing world of multimedia and interactivity I love visiting art and tech shows whenever possible..

The National Maritime Museum (NMM), in collaboration with United Visual Artists (UVA) and Cape Farewell, presents High Arctic, an expedition experience.

I don't want to give anything away, so all I must say is that I highy recommend you experience this for yourself!! Check the links in the above paragraph for more info x

    PSM x GiO

It was June when Apogee sent me the GiO.

At the time I wasn't entirely sure of how I was going to implement it into my set up, all I knew was that it would be a great feature as it could add a lot more functionality and ease of useabilty to my Apple MainStage set up.

After playing with The GiO and experimenting more and more, I really got into creating 4 bar loops based on vocal riffs and patterns. This was supported by MainStage's Looper plug in which was super easy to set up.

The outcome of my months of looping was a beautifully shot Autumn experience in the woods..

A collaboration with my creative partner Rohan Blair-Mangat which features my GiO, MacBook Pro and a mini generator. For a full write up see: The PSM Looping with the Apogee GiO

And a massive thank you to my friends at Apogee Electronics for featuring me on their main webpage! x

New SPD, SpongeBob Drums and Kano Session

So last week it was out with the old (SPD-S) see previous post this week it was in with the new (SPD-30)

SPD-30 and SpongeBob Drums at Red Bull Studios, London

The SPD-30 is the new Roland Octapad, based on the original Pad-8 which was launched before I was born, in 1985. Since then the Pad-8 has been re-modeled and updated several times to what is now an integral instrument in many live and studio set ups for drummers and producers alike.

    The Original Pad-8 (1985)

You can see my new shiny Octapad at the heart of my set up on a session I played with Kano at BBC Maida Vale (Aired earlier this week on Zane Lowe and Mistajam's Shows on Radio 1 and 1Xtra)

It's only online for 6 days, so watch it while you can! Kano at BBC Maida Vale

Until the next time.. BIG shout to Kano who has just released his 4th studio album 'Method to the Madness'

    Farewell SPD-S

PSM SPD-S battle scarred and held together with tape

After a two and a half year service, i must bid farewell to my old Roland SPD-S.

I first started using this on some of the earlier work I did with Eliza Doolittle.

Since then its been on more tours than I've been on, after being borrowed out to some of the UK's finest drummers: Ginger (Peter Andre), Nathstar (McLean) and Breakbeat (N-Dubz).

Although it was a little sad to see it go, I hope whoever uses it next can treat it with as much care, love and respect as I did.

Much love to the Roland Corp for the support during this difficult period.

    GiO

There's nothing like getting your hands on new toys and gadgets..

But this one is really special to me, i'm really looking forward to getting it out and using it on stage!

Its the GiO by Apogee which is conventionally used as an interface and controller for guitarists, but i'm gonna switch it up implementing into my Mainstage and eventually my Ableton workflow as a controller for effects on my electronic and more ambitiously my acoustic drums.

This is what it looks like, fresh out the box..

Keep checking back as i'll be uploading a video when i've got to grips with all this 'jiggery pokery' =]

In the meantime check out the Apogee GiO website where you can see how Guitarists have managed to implement the GiO into their set ups.

    Bless Up!
